The Currency Of Heaven

Luke 12:33 says, “Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys.”

This verse implies there’s a currency of heaven that doesn’t look like the currency of this world.  If that’s true, we would do well to learn more.

I love the Word of God.  I love that it is alive.  I love that when you ask the Holy Spirit to walk through the Word with you, He will reveal, in God’s holy time, the depths of its message.  He does this by revealing the heart of our God.

It may not always feel like God’s heart is for us but we know better.  Our trust and our faith in God’s good heart is the currency of heaven.

The preceding verses to the Luke verse mentioned above speak powerfully of God’s provision:

“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life…” is how they begin.  “Consider the lilies, how they grow, they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.”

“But if God so clothes the grass, which is alive in the field today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will He clothe you, O you of little faith?”

Take note:  Jesus never said to His disciples,

“O you of little prayer.”

“O you of little works.”

“O you of little fasting.”

No, not once did He say any of those.

It was always, “O you of little faith.”

I believe, whole-heartedly (and because I’m learning the heart of my God), Jesus spoke these words with love in His eyes and tenderness in His voice.  He truly wanted His beloved followers to understand this.  He wanted them to see clearly: the currency of heaven is faith.

Our walk is not about toiling or spinning but rather resting in the goodness of God.

Sandwiched perfectly between the verses I just read and the one with which I opened this post are these precious words:

“Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.”

Do you believe that?

My friends in faith, this is the kingdom we need to receive because once we do, we realize its great, great value.  This is the kingdom we’d want to sell everything else to gain.  This is the kingdom of which it is His good pleasure to give us.

Jesus bought this kingdom for us and it can’t be taken away if we put our faith in Him.

So we need to ask ourselves from time to time, where is our treasure?  For wherever it is, there are hearts will be, as well.

Are we resting?

Or do we toil?

I am so thankful we serve a God of such tremendous love…

who would take our small offerings of faith and see to it that they move mountains in the Kingdom of God.

Jesus, You are the pearl of great price.  And for you, we lay it all down.

When I first saw the title of your message the word “currency” puzzled me. I figured you meant money, but knew there was no money in heaven. So i thought that maybe currency was a form of the word current as in present time like heaven on earth. Anyway as I read your message, I soon found out your meaning. These passages give us sooo much hope! Thank you for sharing your time and wisdom to remind us.

What a wonderful reminder! Our lives here and all of its “currencies” are temporary. But, our Heavenly currencies are forever and totally unimaginable by our earthly minds! Wow! Praising the Lord all day! Thank you!
